So what now ?
That is a question I’ve found myself asking time and time again. How do you move on from something that has happened to you, something that caused you misery and heartache, yet also something that you held onto for so long.
I suppose this is a question that many people will ask themselves during their lives. How do you move forwards and stop looking backwards ? How do you let go of the past ?
The rest of your life is ahead of you, and with seemingly infinite choices for where the rest of your story goes it can be paralysing trying to take the right path.
But surely any path is the right path ? Any path is headed away from where you started. Surely the goal to strive for isn’t to search for the perfect road to take, as no such road exists. Really the only real choice is to decide to move forwards into the unknown or to go back to the devil you know.
As we view our lives from a lens of who we consider ourselves to be, and as time goes on that view of ourselves changes. It seems futile to start your journey striving to reach somewhere in particular, for as you grow and learn you might find that one day you are someone with different hopes and dreams altogether.
Even more futile would be to strive for a goal that others have told you to reach, for they do not truly know who you are, and they do not view you through the same lens you view yourself.
We must strive to be ourselves, and to try and enjoy the journey where we can.
For as we head into the unknown and away from the past, maybe you will find out who you are and what you really wanted all along.
